ONE of the city’s best known family businesses has won the bi-monthly Limerick Tidy Towns award.
Jack Fitzgerald Electrical, located at Lower Shannon Street, was honoured for its fabulous displays in its shop window.
Business owner John Fitzgerald and Claire Conway created the Christmas window displays.
Maura O’Neill, Limerick City Tidy Towns said: “Our November-December winners are selected specifically for their Christmas windows or lighting displays and we are delighted to present this year’s award to Jack Fitzgerald Electrical, whose windows at their double fronted unit are full of Christmas magic with a festive display of Santas, elves, and fairy lights to accompany their wide range of products.”

Maura praised the staff at the retailer for the efforts they put in for Christmas in Limerick every year.
“The team, and Claire in particular, really do make a great effort to celebrate the Christmas season, and we are delighted to acknowledge that effort especially given that the windows cover two streets on both Henry Street and Lower Shannon Street,” she said.
A stalwart of Limerick city centre’s retail scene, Jack Fitzgerald Electrical has been in business for more than 50 years.
It has survived through recessionary times - and even continues to trade after its premises were flooded and burnt down.
In recent years, the firm joined Euronics, a group of independent retailers who joined forces to create the largest electrical buying group in Europe.
Jack Fitzgerald Electrical is Limerick City Tidy Town’s sixth and final winner for 2024 and will be in with a chance to be the overall winner for the year.
If you wish to nominate a business in the city for an award or indeed to volunteer with Limerick City Tidy Towns, they meet every Sunday at 11am at the corner of Thomas Street and O’Connell Street.
