New community group that will save lives in Limerick ‘goes live'

THE LIFESAVERS of Limerick communities have now gone ‘live’ with their voluntary first response group.

The Templeglantine Community First Responders (CFRs) group have been saving lives in West Limerick since April, but are hosting their official launch on Sunday, September 10.

The “evening of fun” will take place in the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine.

“It promises to be an evening of fun for all the family but also an opportunity to educate our community. Early detection is key!,” a spokesperson said.

The volunteers cover the Templeglantine area but also Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West, and the surrounding parishes including Tournafulla, Mountcollins, and Ardagh.

The 24-hour service mainly concerns chest pains, strokes, heart attacks and cardiac arrests. The cost of equipping one volunteer with a defibrillator is €1,500, so fundraising is key for the group.

The aim of the group is to reach the person in emergency situations before the ambulance arrives. Once a call is made to 999, the call dispatches to the CFR group and the first responder travels to the patient’s address to provide the care.

The volunteers are Damien and Áine Mulcahy, Willie Harnett, Joe McAuliffe, Carmel Finnegan, David Larkin, Ann Marie Buckley, Kevin Larkin, Gerard Sexton, Willie Larkin and John Kelly.
